Taekwondo is a modern martial art which origins are in Korea. Martial arts in that country have a very long tradition which is witnessed by archeological foundings and other historical monuments, some of which are even 2000 years.old.

In that respect it is sufficient to remind on well known murals from the Koguryo period in which we can se barehanded handed in characteristic stancec, as well as on two famoust figures of fighters at the entrances of the Sokkuram cave near Kyungju, performing double block called “keumgang makki”, which is still used in taekwondo.

Although it has roots in traditional martial arts that vere known for centuries (Hwarangdo, Tekyon, Subak, etc. – 31 of them altogether) taekwondo itself was founded only after the Second World War, as a modern sport and martial art. |

It is particularly important to note that together with the Japanese judo, taekwondo is the only martial art that became Olimpic sport. Since Sidney 2000. teakwondo is in the official program of Olimpic Games. |

In Yugoslavia (now Serbia and Montenegro) taekwondo has been practiced since 1983. Since then some notable results has been achieved, including several medals from the World and European championships. There are some 60 clubs, of which majority is in Serbia, and smaller part in Montenegro.
